The City Council seeks public interest to serve on the Kern Mosquito & Vector Control District Board (KMVCD)

The Shafter City Council is seeking one individual for appointment to serve a 2-year term on the KMVCD Board beginning January 2018. Individuals interested in being considered must be a resident within the incorporated city limits and registered to vote upon appointment; and must submit a LETTER OF INTEREST with their name, address, telephone number, a statement why they are interested, and a résumé of work experience, education, and other qualifications, to the Shafter City Council,

The KMVCD’s primary objective is the progressive elimination of mosquito breeding places; the objective to be accomplished by an educational service on control measures, performing services of temporary relief control, establishing projects of source reduction, using abatement procedure methods when necessary, and by general policy of cooperation.

The KMVCD board consists of 8 trustees: 4 appointed by the Kern County Board of Supervisors, and one each by the City Councils of Arvin, Bakersfield, Shafter, and Wasco. The KMVCD board meetings are held at the KMVCD Office, 4705 Allen Rd., the second Wednesday monthly, at 11:30 a.m. Compensation is $100 monthly. Upon assuming office, the board member must file an Oath of Office, evidence of completion of a Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) ethics training course, and a FPPC Form 700 Disclosure Statement of Economic Interests; and maintain residency within the incorporated city limits throughout the term.
