The City of Shafter has been working on water use reduction strategies for some time and has already achieved a 15% reduction since the State began requiring conservation last year. In addition to existing efforts the City of Shafter plans to take additional steps to achieve as much as a 36% reduction of water use.
City of Shafter's Response
- The City has begun to eliminate some ornamental grass and minimize irrigation for other landscaping in city parks, street medians, and public facilities. Grass in city parks is being maintained at safe and usable condition for the benefit of Shafter families.
- The City requires drought tolerant landscaping for new development.
- The installation of water service meters citywide will be expedited.
- Public Works and Police staff will be trained to identify and cite water wasting.
