Lost Animal?
If you have lost an animal, you can contact the Shafter Animal Shelter to report it.  You may also come by the shelter to see if your animal is there. You should also contact Kern County Animal Control at 661-868-7100 and the Bakersfield SPCA at 661-323-8353 to report your lost animal.  In most cases, shelters have multiple animals coming through their doors on a daily basis so it is your responsibility to keep checking back with each shelter for your animal.  Most importantly, your animal should be wearing identification tags at all times. This is your animal's ticket home!

If you would like to send us an e-mail for information, please send to:

The Kern County Grand Jury serves to assist the people of Kern County. The Kern County Grand Jury is a body of 19 citizens, independent of any political or special interest group, that objectively investigates all aspects of county government, special districts and cities to ensure that these bodies are being effectively governed and that public monies are being judiciously handled.

In November of this year, the Grand Jury conducted an inspection of the City of Shafter's Animal Shelter. You may read their report by clicking here: Animal Shelter Grand Jury Report 2007.
